Educational Programming

BEGINNING FALL, 2009

MONTGOMERY COUNTY CULTURAL CENTER AND YMCA STRONG PROGRAM
Are sponsoring theater based classes:
Strong Theater: Students will explore how to communicate a play and characters through movement and song, and work on character development, basic theater exercises and improvisation skills, and healthy vocal techniques, as they study acting in preparation for on-stage roles. Ages 6 - 14.
Creative Dance: Dance basics and choreography for musical theatrical productions. Ages 6 - 14
Location: Montgomery County Cultural Center, 208 DeKalb Street, Norristown, PA 19401
Day: Thursdays 6 – 8 PM Tuition for these classes is $50. Pay Plans available
Starting: September 10th through November 19 (10 Sessions). Spring Session begins January 7, 2010

ARTS AFTER HOURS - SATURDAY MORNING CLASSES IN THEATER
This program covers theater and choreography. Students will have activities in improvisation, mime, auditioning skills, character development, script reading, and makeup. Past students will have the opportunity to explore their acting in more depth. This class taught by master teachers who are theater specialists. Ages 6 - 18
Fall Session: October 3, 2009 _ December 5th (10 sessions) 10 AM to 12 Noon. Tuition for these classes is $110. Pay Plans available. Spring Session Starts February 6th, 2010 - 10 sessions.

OTHER PROGRAMMING FOR CHILDREN

Kids: The Heart of the Arts - Summer Program Learn details about this Barrymore nominated arts program. We serve children between 5 and 14 for five weeks each summer presenting classes in acting, art, design, dance and music. This program focuses on process not product and abstraction rather than concrete artistic concepts.

Student Music Theatre Workshop: The Centre Theater produces two main stage children-produced musicals each the year. Directed, acted and designed by kids under the supervision of trained theater profesionals from the Centre Theatre's professional staff, these shows permit kids to play real roles in real plays and put into practice the lessons learn in the more process-oriented programs offered by our facility.

Heart of the Arts Classes: The Cultual Center offers several sessions of acting classes throughout the year for children and adults.
